THREADS: META’S NEW SOCIAL MEDIA APP FOR SEAMLESS CONNECTION

Looking for a better way to connect? You may want to check out the newest option out there called, “Threads.”

What is it? You may have heard it’s just another version of Twitter, but the fact is, in the short time it’s been available, it’s taking off…and quick! So take a minute to hop off Twitter and head over to Threads to see what all the fuss is about.

WHAT IS THREADS AND HOW DO YOU GET IT?

This is a new social media app created by Meta, that is aimed at enhancing the user experience by focusing on private and intimate connections. And it’s mostly text-based. It’s a way to keep dialogue going between users much like Twitter does.

It’s integrated with Instagram, so in order to use it, you simply have to have an Instagram account. Your user name stays the same, and you can easily import over all your information from Instagram. This new tool is going to complement the app by allowing users to share their everyday moments with their close friend list in a more private environment.

WHAT ARE THE FEATURES?

One of the key features of Threads is that there is an emphasis on private communication. While traditional social media platforms encourage users to share with larger audiences, this one is going to prioritize sharing and connecting more with smaller friend groups. Once you sign up, you’re even prompted to create a “close friends” list which allows you to share content with just that specific group.

Once that close friends list is created, Threads will automatically populate it with contact’s from your Instagram account. This integration allows a seamless transition between the two platforms allowing for quick and convenient sharing. It’s a great way to avoid all those suggested posts in your feed and get back to the roots of the people you actually want to keep up with.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you get started…

  • You can post up to 500 characters

  • Hashtags don’t work here

  • No DMs

  • Photos, videos and links are allowed, but I don’t recommend using videos here. Save that for your stories. This is where you want to use short and sweet texts and maybe a few photos.

  • And the best part? NO ADS (yet).

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT

Threads is going to give us a new way to share content essentially. It’s going to be easier than ever to get status updates out there. Users can update status throughout the day with text, photos, or videos, and these updates will automatically be shared with that close friend list creating a more intimate space for conversation. Automatic sharing means less effort in having to manually input information.

In addition to status updates, Threads offers real-time messaging making it easy to engage one-on-one or in group conversations. Instant communication and updates allows users to stay up to date more easily within their circle. This instant communication is important to note for all social media managers and business owners outsourcing their social media, because right now, there is NO scheduling of any Threads. All Threads are happening in real time and it definitely gives a sense of authenticity to the app.

Now remember, this is all SUPER new. For everyone. So give yourself time to learn how to use it, but also don’t hesitate to dive into exploring it now. And what does this mean for you as a business owner? I’m not completely sure yet, but I intend to find out. This will likely open new avenues for you to connect with people and get your message out there about your product or service in a quick and efficient way.
